Wednesdays | 4 - 6 pm | January 28, 2026 - April 15, 2026 (10 sessions, no class on Feb 18 and April 8). Student Art Exhibition | Thursday, April 23, 2026. Free and open to students 9 - 13 yrs of age | 12 spots | Registration required through The Art Space website. Class Description Our sketchbooks are both a creative playground and an essential artistic tool. College-ready art portfolios often include sketchbooks in order to showcase the student’s daily art practice and willingness to experiment. In this course, you will be given new sketchbooks. Through fun, engaging lessons, we will practice a variety of techniques, from blind contour drawing to character exploration. In addition, you will build strong foundational skills in drawing and color, while learning how artists use sketchbooks to think, test ideas, and tell visual stories. We will work with a range of media and approaches, encouraging curiosity and creative risk-taking. This class emphasizes process and confidence-building over perfection, helping you see your sketchbooks as personal spaces for discovery, growth, and self-expression.
