NORWALK, CT (January 6, 2022) — Connecticut Humanities, the statewide, nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), has awarded The Norwalk Art Space a CT Cultural Fund Operating Support Grant (CTCFOSG) in the amount of $10,800.
The Norwalk Art Space will use this operating support grant to help fulfill its mission to enhance opportunities and equity in the Connecticut arts community, and would like to thank the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County for acting as fiscal sponsor through the grant process. The Norwalk Art Space supports local artists, offers free high-quality art classes for high school students, and provides a welcoming and vibrant arts hub for the community.
”We are so grateful for this funding, especially as a new organization which only opened in June 2021, and we hope to reach many more area residents in 2022 through our free events and classes," says Gallery and Events Manager Katy Sullivan. "Our spring semester art classes for high school students begin January 24th and we offer an exciting variety of events including new art exhibitions every six weeks, open mic nights, artist talks, open sketch sessions and live music. This grant will help us to continue offering all of this at no charge to the public."
The Norwalk Art Space was one of 624 organizations in Connecticut that was awarded CT Cultural Fund support totaling $16M from CT Humanities. The CTCFOSG is part of $30.7M of support allocated to arts, humanities, and cultural nonprofits through CTH over the next two years by the CT General Assembly and approved by Governor Ned Lamont. The CTCFOSG will assist organizations as they recover from the pandemic and maintain and grow their ability to serve their community and the public.
This grant was administered by CT Humanities (CTH), with funding provided by the Connecticut State Department of Economic and Community Development/Connecticut Office of the Arts (COA) from the Connecticut State Legislature.
